Useful Keyboard Shorts & Tricks
Using your keyboard to navigate your computer and performing basic to complex tasks is very easy. In fact, you can do most things on your keyboard as you would use a mouse. Take note of these useful shortcuts and tricks on your keyboard in order to simplify and speed up your work.
- CTRL + C – This is one of the most basic and commonly used shortcuts on computer keyboards. This command allows you to copy any selected texts on a document or web page, which is more convenient than having to right click your mouse and select the Copy command. It is a time-saving keyboard trick when you have to copy several blocks of texts at one time.
- CTRL + X – This keyboard shortcut enables you to do the reverse of the action above. Instead of copying selected text or texts, you can delete the selected texts off of the document you are working on.
- CTRL + V – This keyboard shortcut enables you to paste the texts that you have copied from one web page or document to a specified location, whether in another document or web page. Again, this is more convenient and hassle-free than having to right click the mouse to select the Paste option.
- CTRL + Z – If you have accidentally performed an action that you did not intend to, you can Undo that by using this keyboard shortcut.
- DELETE – This keyboard shortcut is created specifically for this purpose – for deleting any text or input that you have chosen for a given task. There is no need to right click your mouse to select the Delete option because you can get it done with just a single press of the button.
- SHIFT + DELETE – This command is not often used but provides a highly useful purpose. It is basically the same as the command above which allows you to delete any selected item. However, instead of that item being automatically sent to the Recycle Bin, this keyboard shortcut will delete it permanently without sending a copy to the Recycle Bin.
- CTRL + SHIFT while you drag selected item – This keyboard shortcut will allow you to create a Shortcut icon for the selected item. There is no need to click onto the item and right click for the Create a Shortcut option because you can do that in a single step.
- F2 + select an item – When you click on an item and simultaneously click on the F2 button, this will prompt you to rename the selected file. The original file name will be highlighted and you can type in the new chosen file name.
- CTRL + RIGHT ARROW – This keyboard shortcut is useful when you are trying to copy a text or texts into a document. You can use the right arrow key to direct where the insertion point is going to be, which in this case is at the start of the next word from the point at which you can pressed on the right arrow key.
- CTRL + LEFT ARROW – It is a variation of the keyboard shortcut above. Instead of inserting the selected text or texts on the next work, the left arrow key will prompt the insertion on the previous word.
- CTRL + DOWN ARROW – This is another variation of the shortcut command that allows you to paste a text or object on your specified destination. By clicking the down arrow key, you will prompt the insertion on the next paragraph.
- CTRL + UP ARROW – This keyboard shortcut enables you to insert the selected object or text into the previous paragraph.
- Hold CTRL + SHIFT then move the arrow keys (to whichever position you desire). This will enable you to highlight the selected text. When you are done selecting, you can release holding both CTRL and SHIFT buttons.
- CTRL + A – Select all texts or objects within a page or document.
